"Kevin Moore Scholarship for Adult Education" Donation Received

On Friday, October 25th, leaders from the Grenada School District's Adult Education Program and the Grenada League for Adult Development (GLAD) were on hand for an event hosted by the Grenada Community Foundation at First & Green, honoring the late Kevin Moore and receiving donations for the "Kevin Moore Scholarship for Adult Education." This $5,000 donation is designated to help cover High School Equivalency (HSE) testing fees for students at the Grenada Adult Education Center on the GED® and HiSET® national tests.

Several representatives from the Grenada Adult Education Center were on hand. Ashley Duke is the student representative serving on the GLAD/Adult Education Advisory Board and a HSE graduate, currently a full-time student at Holmes Community College Grenada. Grenada Adult Education Director and GLAD board member Priscilla Burns gave a moving thank-you at the October 25th event. Cindy Heimbach attended representing the Mississippi Adult Education state office. Although based in Grenada, she is the Instructional Development Specialist for Mississippi Adult Education. Valinda Smith is the HSE Testing Site Manager/Chief Examiner and Adult Literacy Program Coordinator.

The Grenada Adult Education Center is an official testing site for the GED® and HiSET® high school equivalency tests. Testing opportunities are offered monthly. Passing all parts of one of these tests is a way to earn a Mississippi High School Equivalency diploma. The total for taking all four parts of the GED® test is $120.  The total for taking all five parts of the HiSET® test is $88.75 (plus an additional $1.50 per part if using a test voucher). Visit the HSE testing section of this website for more info.

Our sincere thanks to Moore family and friends and the Grenada Community Foundation for their support of our students and aid in helping achieve the goal of a high school equivalency diploma for many students in the future.

Free Adult Literacy/Adult Education Apps - XPrize Competition

Join Team ProLiteracy!

Change the world by joining the ProLiteracy Adult Literacy XPRIZE Communities Competition team!

If you or someone you know wants to improve their basic literacy, math skills, or English language skills, please join us for this amazing opportunity!

We have joined Team ProLiteracy in the effort to transform the lives of adult learners everywhere. ProLiteracy, a leader in adult literacy for more than 60 years, has established a team for the Adult Literacy XPRIZE Communities Competition to help get proven educational apps into the hands of thousands of learners nationwide.

HOW IT WORKS
By joining Team ProLiteracy, you, your learners, or friends/family (also known as “users,”) will have access to FREE, proven-effective Adult Literacy XPRIZE competition finalists’ education apps. The competition runs from April 1 through August 31, 2019. AND, users will be able to use the apps for free for one full year after the competition ends—until August 31, 2020!

WHY JOIN TEAM PROLITERACY
ProLiteracy has made it easy by providing a complete toolkit that includes support and instruction for downloading and using the apps and links to recorded and live informational webinars. Most importantly, if ProLiteracy is one of the top winners, prize money will go directly back to programs through the National Book Fund to help provide more learners with quality educational materials (including apps). Programs that participate on the ProLiteracy Team for the XPRIZE Communities Competition will be given special preference
for National Book Fund grants distributed.

THE APPS
Four apps will be used throughout the competition.
1. These apps must be downloaded and used on Android smartphones or tablets. Usage on computers, iPhones, or iPads unfortunately do not count for this competition.
2. Each participant must use at least one app on at least three different days. They can use as many apps as desired, but only the one app used at least three different days will be counted toward the competition results.
3. To be counted for the competition, the ProLiteracy code 1155 must be entered during app download. See the “TEAM RESOURCES” section below for all information participants need to understand and download apps.
4. Visit the Google Play Store on your Android device and search the app name to get started:
a. Learning Upgrade: https://abc.xprize.org/lu1155
b. Amarita Learning: https://abc.xprize.org/ac1155
c. Cell-Ed: https://abc.xprize.org/ce1155
d. Codex: https://abc.xprize.org/pw1155

Weather Policy

Since the possibility of winter weather is in the forecast, I am again posting our weather policy for the Grenada Adult Education Center.

If high school equivalency testing days are impacted, the testing vendor should send emails to test-takers to let them know about site closures.

Contact GED Testing Service or HiSET about rescheduling testing soon afterwards when there is a site closure.

If we are closed on a class day due to weather, consult the Grenada School District calendar for weather makeup days. A day originally scheduled as a school holiday will be used to make up the missed day(s).
