Memorial Donations
In the fall, GLAD received memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Kay Townes totaling $130.00. Mrs. Townes was a leader in our adult literacy council in Grenada for many, many years.
In January 2013, GLAD received memorial donations in memory of Senator John Keeton totaling $100.00. Senator Keeton’s widow, Mrs. Margaret Keeton, became active in adult literacy efforts in Grenada even before the founding of GLAD. Over the years, the Keetons have been benefactors of GLAD in many ways.
Our thanks to these donors for honoring the memory of these community leaders through donations to the Grenada League for Adult Development, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Donate Items for Our Recycling Fundraiser
Remember that we collect used inkjet and toner cartridges, cell phones, and small electronics to earn extra money for our projects and services. Drop items by the Grenada Adult Education Center during hours we are open. Carol Hecker organizes this project locally. A shipment of items collected in the fall and sent in earlier this month earned us $207!

FINAL Evening Class Registration Extended
Last night, Tues., Jan. 15th, was supposed to be the final opportunity for new students to begin late registration for our free Tuesday/Thursday evening classes. However, the School District closed early yesterday due to icy weather conditions. So, late registration has been extended through tomorrow night, Jan. 17th. Anyone adult wanting to register should arrive a little before 5:00 p.m. (late arrivals will not be able to register) and plan to stay until 8:00 p.m. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. Participants should be at least 18 years old and must be OFFICIALLY withdrawn from school.
If you are under 21 and have not been enrolled at the Grenada Adult Education Center since July 1, 2012, it would be a good idea to come by the front office during office hours (8 am - 3 pm, except for lunch) today or tomorrow and fill out a form so we can go ahead and get Last School Verification done in advance.
If you miss registration for the first spring session, our next open registration will begin in mid-March.
Remember that the current GED test series expires at the end of this year. The 2014 test will be more difficult and more expensive, so prepare now to succeed soon. Share this with friends and family, neighbors, and church members!

Closing early...No evening classes tonight (Tues., Jan. 15th)
The Grenada School District is closing early again today due to weather. The Adult Ed. Center is closing at 1:45 p.m. and will not reopen today...so no evening classes tonight. Evening classes will meet next on Thursday, Jan. 17th, at 5 p.m.
We plan to reopen at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow for morning classes, unless the Grenada School District is officially closed due to weather tomorrow. Listen to local news outlets. If the School District is having class in the morning, we will be having classes also.

Note about the weather....
Yesterday (Monday, Jan. 14th), the Grenada School District dismissed early at 1:45 p.m. The District is open for classes today. Grenada is currently under an Ice Storm Warning until 6 p.m. tonight, but ice storms don't happen much more often than they do. Only time will tell if this is a non-event. Stay tuned.
If the Grenada School District dismisses early on a Tuesday or Thursday (days that we have evening classes), then evening classes that night will not meet.
If conditions grow hazardous after the school day ends, check the social media resources mentioned below. In that case, the Grenada ABE Director will make the call about that evening's classes.
